Music Update

A quick note on what's happening in my world of music:

I've gone back to the studio to work on a small two track project. These two songs will serve as "bonus" tracks available only online, and for a limited time will be free through my website. I will let you know when they are released. I'm very excited about the direction of both recordings and feel like there are some new, fresh elements that are stretching me in the studio.

Stay in tune, and I'll let you know when they are up! Thanks!

Through your window. Autumn mid afternoon. The road; pickups ramble seldomly, sleepily. Leaves still cling. Shed another moment of grace. of beauty. The sun comes through a filter of cold. Enhanced. Vivid. Blue. Green. Orange. The very air is fire. The wind brings hints of December's ice. The mountains roll. The back of a whale diving underneath a grassy sea.
The other side is real. The window--see creation on display. Reveals each passing season one by one. Life, it's what passes by the glass.
You turn on the sink. Full steam ahead. Steam indeed. Hot. Water rushing straight from faucet to drain releasing clouds--clouds captured between these four walls. Sunlight muffled. Dampened day. Rolling hills become smudges. Ground--the green lower half. Sky is the upper blue. Soon to be gray.
Window fogged. Display vague. Almost gone now. Scene lost. Life done.

Oh, unholy vapor spewing from my chest. How you block my view. Hide my God. May the hand of grace cleanse the opaque. Turn everything crystal.

Oh Holy Light, break through the gray of night.

Mercy Makes its Rounds

I cry mercy for the whores and the sluggards
I cry mercy for the preachers to paupers
Precious mercy for the tie-wearing Senate
For all these bill and pills and sermons and these personal agendas
I cry mercy, Lord
Mercy Lord over me

I cry mercy in the darkest cells of our prisons
I cry mercy for the king atop his kingdom
Sweet flowing mercy for the praying or sleeping mothers
For all these thrills and frills and protesting yells and these calculated consumers
I cry mercy, Lord
Mercy Lord over me

If we all crash and burn, and we are all found out
If my secret wound's exposed, will You come and snuff me out
Hold onto me; I'm strained against the reigns
Hold onto me; Don't let this darkness take my name
Don't let it, Lord

Hold onto me; mothers hide your daughters
Hold onto me; My boy don't become your father
Don't let him, Lord

This weekend I spoke in Charlottesville, VA at the middle school Launch convention presented by SMOV (Student Ministries of Virginia). It was an honor to be allowed the opportunity to present the Gospel of Christ to those students.
However, it was a challenging theme this year. I was told to teach on the importance of being "Together" in the body of Christ

Ephesians 2:21-22
"In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in Him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by His Spirit."

I won't lie, it is a little tricky to communicate the importance of existing as a unified community to 12 year olds who's primary concern is... well... themselves (I mean, I know that's how I was as a 12 year old). However, I feel that God took over and did the talking, thus the weekend bore fruit. The kids listened great, and I'm really pleased.

I was a little sick all weekend and tried to keep from coughing up flem on the front row. Other than that, good times!

Special thanks to Sharon Parks for recording these videos of the CD Release. She let me know that these were available on Youtube, so I thought I'd pass them along. Obviously the sound is not the same as live, but you can at least get the idea. Hope you enjoy!
